What is PetPromise?

PetPromise is dedicated to creating a world
and a time where there are no more homeless pets through education, rescue, sterilization,
and adoption.

Each year 12 million animals are euthanized in
the United States. That is 1 million a month
1,388 animals an hour ... PetPromise is working tirelessly to decrease this statistic.

Help us make a change!

Each year PetPromise rescues and provides food and medical care to hundreds of homeless, unwanted, and abused dogs and cats. For most of these animals, PetPromise is thier last hope. Your entry fee and pledges will help give homeless pets a second chance.

Couldn't Make the Race?
Be a part of the fun and part of the solution without the run! If you would like to support PetPromise's mission and you want to help save the lives of homeless pets but couldn't participate or attend, the 2009 PetPromise Rescue Run & Walk collect pledges and register by mail or register on-line as an "Absentee Participant". You will receive a PetPromise Spay/Neuter Awareness wristband and you can take your own steps knowing that you helped animals in need!

Why Walk or Run?

The Fate of the Feral Puppies
On April 8, 2009 PetPromise was contacted about a group of little puppies who were living alone under a barn in rural Licking County. There were two little black puppies and one reddish one living in a pile of rubble. They were dirty and thin...and very scared.

We were able to trap the little red girl right away. Her name is Ruby and today she has been adopted and is loved by a 3 year old boy and his parents.

But the two little black puppies were smarter. They wouldn't go into the traps. So for the next two months, we did everything we could to catch "Gracie & George" so that they too could have homes where they would be loved. We tried traps, nets, pole catchers, everything.

But as they weeks went on, the puppies began to respond to people. They came out running with tails wagging when they heard a voice and romped and played around us...but they would not let us catch them. Then on May 19th gunshots were heard near the puppies' hideout. The puppies had both been shot. George was already gone...but Gracie was still alive and died in the arms of one of her caretakers. Words cannot express our anger or sadness and the sensless killing fo these sweet puppies. Just 16 weeks old...they had their whole lives to live. We have to find a way to make this a world where there are NO MORE HOMELESS PETS!

Rest in Peace sweet Gracie and George. Please walk or run in rememberance of these two puppies who never had a chance...and so that no dog or cat will have to suffer this same fate again!

What is the Rescue Run?

The PetPromise RESCUE RUN & WALK is a 5K run/walk and festival held annually on Memorial Day Weekend at McFerson Commons park in the Arena District promoting awareness of the pet overpopulation problem and supporting efforts to change the future for all homeless pets through education, rescue, sterilization, and adoption.

Over 900 people — including those from large corporations and local companies, family teams, local schools, and colleges — participated in the 2008 RESCUE RUN & WALK and raised more than $40,000.00 for lifesaving PetPromise Programs & Services!

We hope you'll take a step in making a difference and join us in 20010!

The walk/run will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2010 RAIN OR SHINE in the Arena District in Downtown Columbus (at McFerson Commons Park accross the street from the Arena Parking Lot.). Mark you calendars now!

The festivities will again start at 8:30 am...and continue after all of the walkers and runners have finished.
All walkers, runners, kids, families, teams, and friendly dogs are invited to join in the fun!

Proceeds from the race will be used to help PetPromise help save the lives of homeless dogs and cats.
